Demonic Traps

The enemy likes to play with people's good intentions. Christians who start out really fired up about hearing God’s voice and doing the right thing can fall prey to the “robot” trap. The enemy will use the desire to hear God’s voice and speak things for the person to do. This speaking often is a “voice” of some form, but does not have to be. It starts off by small amounts of speaking and minor tasks attempting to earn the trust of the Chrisitian. Eventually the Christian falls into a “only do something if I hear something” kind of mentality.

The simple way to break this is to take authority against the “voice” and ignore it, and make decisions! God did not create robots, you have free will and can make good decisions! You are a new creation! You have the mind of Christ! You can think and act in accordance with God’s will without hearing a “voice”. This is part of living by faith. This does not mean you cannot hear a voice, but God is Spirit and He lives in you. When the Holy Spirit speaks in the form of a voice it will be through your spirit, it will sound like you said something to yourself in your mind! (Romans 8:16, Genesis 1:7, 2:15-17, Galatians 2:20, James 1:5)

The flip side of this is the “do whatever” trap. Christians who understand their righteousness well and that God wants to bless them and prosper them can fall prey to this trap. The result is that they can get caught up in the desires of the world or the enemy’s attempts to entice them and simply do whatever they think is good. This generally happens from not exercising basic discernment, praying, checking the Bible and asking about decisions. The main issue is a lack of intimacy with Jesus (James 1:27, 1 John 2:17, John 15:4-5, Proverbs 3:5-6, 2 Timothy 3:16-17)
